Written by The Gaffer…so take heed!!!
After a good result the week before,
and playing like we have done at the start of the season things were positive going into a game which currently is the biggest
game of the season. The team remained the same with only Paul Chell coming in for the injured Daz Castell.
The game started, in he usual manner with Sports unable to get a firm grip
of the game, until about 10 mins in when we seemed to start to make our superiority show. With this dominance came a goal…a
lost cause was chased down by Paul Clarke who swung in a great cross, which the Baildon defender headed in. 1-0
The game continued in the same vain, with the Sports dominating without playing
well. Baildon were starting to create chances and were coming closer and closer.
Then with 5 mins to go before the break, a lapse in defence let a Baildon forward
through to slot home1-1.
The 2nd half commenced with the Sports playing even poorer than
the first half, with the norm being 15 chances and converting 5, were generating zero chances and had scored 1….then
as before the Baildon forwards beat the offside trap, and ran through to score passed Mark Nurthern with ease.
Even this did not seem to inspire the sports, the same poor play continued
with a game of ping pong being played from the back to the front, and visa versa from Baildon……..
Then the Sports won a corner which was whipped over by Andy Midge and some
calamity Baildon defending let to yet another own goal..2-2
Normally, the Sports would lift their game and kill a game off…..but
we looked far from a team that wanted to win, more to the point it was the Baildon team who showed more fight and determination.
And in the end it paid off, a reckless challenge in the Sports box, resulted
in a penalty, which everyone was hoping Mark Nurthern would save, was coolly slotted in the bottom corner…3-2
We didn’t create a single clear cut opportunity in this game, and that
continued till the end…and the final whistle blew.
From a team that contains players that have all played at a far higher level
than what they are playing at now, to produce such an inept performance in one of the biggest games of the season…is
The team wanted the game on…that was sorted….the team wanted a
goalkeeper that talked and shouted and organised….and they ignored him…..what more does the gaffer have to do
to get the team to perform to their full capabilities??? Answers on a postcard please!!!!
We played a top of the league distinctly average side…. who made us look
average also…. which is not the form of league champions…
I believe that the championship will still be ours…. but to get it we
will have to perform to a consistent level every week.
With a ¼ final and a semi final coming up on consecutive weeks, if we play
like that we will fall out of both competitions…
It up to you!!!
MOM: There wasn’t one…
