Thackley Sports V Wharfedale Pirates   30.1.05

After a fine performance last week beating the pirates sports went into this game thinking it should be the same again but from the off it was obvious that it wasnt to be. The majority of the team had been at a wedding the previous day and it was clear we would have to produce get a result. Spoets competed for the first 20 mins and went ahead after Andy Midgley took a long throw in from the left hand side and was flicked on to Lewis Dyson who fired home from inside the 6 yard box   1-0.

.Then pirates turned up the heat and they seemed to be the team that wanted it more, and when a ball was played into the box the sports defenders were stood shouting for offisde while the striker scored from close range.1-1

At this point sports stopped passing the ball that they are capable of doing, and started to hit & hope which was getting us nowhere. Bickering started as the frustration set in due to the poor play which priates took advantage of as they were causing us problems. The ball was played into the pirates new striker who had his back to goal on the edge of the sports box.He held off Martin Maude turned & hit a good strike into the bottom corner 2-1

Half time saw plenty of sports players with lots to say but no-one putting it into practice on the pitch.Sports didnt improve at all and then midway through the 2nd half a ball over the top split our defence and the pirates midfielder coolly slotted home from the edge of the area past the stranded & exposed Mick Dunn in goal 3-1

. Then a turning point in the game ,on a sports attack, Lewis Dyson twisted & turned in the box and was up ended and a penalty was given.Up stepped Andy Midgley to take the kick but was well saved by the keeper.

there was no improvement in the sports play and as the game was coming to an end pirates broke down the right hand side, crossed and was headed in from close range,4-1

In summary this was one of the worst performances of the season and we were well beaten. There was no fighting spirit, no passion, no commitment,  nobody wanted to try and influence the game. Hopefully we may meet Pirates in the league cup final should we both win our semis, and we can put right our wrongs.Lets just see how we respond against yeadon Town next week. People need to prove they are good footballers
